  • Young Carers

At Longcot and Fernham CE Primary School, we seek to ensure that our children with caring responsibilities are supported and recognised. If you believe your child is a Young Carer, please contact Mrs Robins (Headteacher) or Mrs McCluskey-Hornbuckle (Deputy Headteacher).

What does it mean to be a Young Carer?

Young carers are children who take on the responsibility of looking after someone in their family.

This could be a parent, sibling, or other family member with an illness, disability, special educational need, mental health condition, or issues related to drug or alcohol use.

Young carers often take on practical and emotional tasks that would typically be expected of an adult.

Identifying young carers is crucial to ensuring they and their families receive the right support and to prevent young carers from taking on excessive or inappropriate care responsibilities.

    Our Young Carers Group

Our school-based Young Carers group meets monthly to talk, connect and share activities together. This could be a Young Carers lunch, outdoor time or craft activity. Children have the opportunity to share their lived experience with our Young Carers Champion and with one another, if they feel comfortable doing so.
