Notification of consultation regarding the proposal to change the lower age range to enable the school to deliver early years provision

                                                                                                                                       25 February 2019

NOTIFICATION OF CONSULTATION REGARDING THE PROPOSAL TO CHANGE THE LOWER AGE RANGE TO ENABLE THE SCHOOL TO DELIVER EARLY YEARS PROVISION

As an Outstanding school, Longcot and Fernham Primary would like to extend the age range within our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to develop educational provision for those children who are eligible to attend nursery from the term after their 3rd birthday. It is proposed that the nursery places will be ready to welcome children from September 2019.

We are proposing this increase of age range within Longcot and Fernham CE Primary School for the following reasons:

  • We believe that continuity for children in the EYFS setting would be greatly enhanced.
  • A qualified teacher would be responsible for over-seeing activities for all EYFS pupils.
  • Children registered would use their full 30 hours at the setting. This would ensure the setting had consistent staffing levels each day. Lunch-club would be considered an optional extra charge.
  • There is an increase of pupil numbers within the local area due to the number of current and proposed housing developments.
  • We are able to provide high quality facilities and resources set within a dedicated Early Years Classroom and outside area.
  • As part of the FAoS our children would experience a seamless education from 3 – 18.
  • Any financial matters relating to the pre-school pupils would be run by the school administration team.

The consultation will run for 6 weeks from 9am on Monday 25th February to Friday 5th April at 5pm. There will be an open meeting on 4pm Thursday 21st March at Longcot and Fernham CE Primary School for people to come and ask questions and give their views.

Any views and/or questions can be expressed by contacting office.3232@longcot-and-fernham.oxon.sch.uk or by contacting the Head Teacher Claire Mellor on 01793 782381 or in writing to the address above.
